Procedure

A 2 year process

There is a free 6 months training program in Kochi, Kerala from July till December. This include an intensive Dutch language course to level 2.4 (B1). Along with the language course there are introduction lessons on Belgian Geriatric care, Psychiatric care and Western healthcare model.

After a successfully finish of the training in Kerala, the candidates starts a one year training in Belgium in combination with work. The candidates continue the Dutch language course, in combination with working as a Healthcare assistant.

The candidate achieve the degree of Registered nurse in Europe if successfully passed the training program.

Stage 1 MARCHE - JUNE

Recruitement and selection

  • A first selection is carried out by ODEPC

    • Certified GNM or BSC Degree from a recognized institution.

    • Evidence of clinical practice (minimum 1 year experience).

    • IELTS overall band score of minimum 6 and preferably 7.

    • OET score of minimum C+ and preferably B.

    • Male and female.

    • The candidate is preferable not older than 35 years at the start of the selection

    • Keen interest in elderly, geriatric and psychiatric care (prime focus on geriatric care)

    • Willingness to work in a elderly care home

    • Willingness to follow a one year additional training programme about geriatric care, psychiatry and the Belgian health care system, in combination with parttime work in a elderly care home as an Health care assistant.

  • Continued a psychological test by Chinta

  • At last an interview with the future employer and the teachers of IVV (nurse school)

When you are selected, you can participate in the Aurora project. You start with Dutch language courses at the beginning of July. Candidates need to reach the level of Dutch 2.1 at the end of September. Assessed by permanent evaluations by the Dutch teachers. If the Dutch level is insufficient at the end of September, the possibility exists that the candidate cannot proceed the Aurora training program.

Stage 2 JULY - JANUARY

Preliminary process in India

Start pre-training India

  • Dutch course in a healthcare context by Flemisch teachers of IVV

    Group = ± 20 students

    The candidate need to reach level 2.1 of Dutch after 3 months of language course (September), if the level of Dutch is not sufficient, the possibility exists that the candidate cannot proceed the Aurora training program. This evaluation is made in consultation between Dutch teacher and the IVV Sint-Vincentius team.

Learn and Assessment (LEA) procedure - Portfolio → several assessments

Goal:

  • level Dutch 2.4 (B1)

  • level Healthcare Assistant

=> Both needed to start the HBO5 nurse training and to start working as a Healthcare Assistant

Phase 3 JULY - JANUARY

Administrative procedure

  • Single permit application → By future employer through Belgian governement

    Permit to work in Belgium

    Permit to stay in Belgium

  • Visum D application → By the Belgian embassy in India

    Permission to fly to Belgium

  • Book the flight → By ODEPC

The costs associated with this administrative procedure will be borne by Project Aurora (Chinta).

Phase 4 JANUARY

Welcome to Belgium

  • Warm welcome by SPOC = Single Point of Contact (employer)

  • Low-rent furnished house provided by the employer during the first year

  • Administrative handling of Belgium start-up

  • Startup school of nursing

  • Startup work

  • Startup Dutch lessons (CVO)

  • Startup Dutch language coaching at the working place

Phase 5 FEBRUARY - JANUARY

Work and study

  • Work as a Healtcare assistant

    employers contract of 80%

  • Study for certified Nurse

    Theory and practice lessons at school IVV Sint-Vincentius

    Internal internschip by employer (coached by a mentor)

    External internschip in homecare and hospital

  • Dutch language lessons

    Cooperation between school IVV Sint-Vincentius and CVO (Centre for Adult Education).

Working as a nurse

Start working as a Certified HBO5 Nurse

Attention: startup Aurora 2025 (batch 5) → HBO5 diploma becomes basic nursing diploma = recognised Belgian nurse.
